We’ve launched a new sports website

We want to report the scores and highlights from prep sports faster than anyone else, and to provide big-time journalism pieces in the print edition on a weekly basis.

So, we’ve created the new Southwest Scoreboard website, http://www.southwestscoreboard.com, which is where you will now find all your sports content.

We’re also adding major feature stories about adult recreation to the weekly print edition.

Plus, we’re looking for content from you. Register on the site and post your photos and video from the high school game, recreational activities and youth sports. Your photos and information may even been printed in the newspaper.

Girls soccer: Lakers earn 4-0 shutout

Junior Katie Roemer scored her first two goals of the season to lead the Prior Lake girls soccer team to a 4-0 non-conference win over Bloomington Kennedy on Sept. 20.

The Lakers improved to 7-5-1 overall with the win.

Kaiti Porter and Paige Kuplic also scored goals for the Lakers, while Alex Citrowske had two assists.

Kristine Thielen earned her third shutout making two saves.

The Lakers (4-2 in the Missota Conference) will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Holy Angels in a conference game at 8 p.m.



Girls swimming: Lakers capture own invite

The Prior Lake girls swimming team won its own eight-team invitational on Sept. 20.

The Lakers ran away from the field, scoring 523 points. Mankato West was a distant second with 362 points, followed by Marshall (286), Simley (269), St. Peter (221), Grand Rapids (184), Watertown-Mayer (152) and New Prague (91).

The Lakers will try for its second straight Missota Conference win on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Hutchinson at 6 p.m. The Lakers are 1-1 in conference duals.



Cross Country: Laker girls seventh at 25-team meet

The Prior Lake girls cross country team finished seventh at the 25-team Milaca Mega Meet on Sept. 20.

The ninth-ranked Lakers had team total of 167 points, 45 points behind champion Stillwater Area (122). Moorhead, ranked No. 12, was third (132), followed by No. 7 Woodbury (138), Coon Rapids (154), West Fargo (159) and Minot, N.D. (162).



Boys soccer: Lakers' seven-game unbeaten streak ends

The Prior Lake boys soccer team had its seven-game unbeaten streak snapped on Sept. 20.

The Lakers were shutout for the first time this season, falling 2-0 to Bloomington Kennedy in a non-conference home game.

The Lakers fell to 7-2-3 overall. The team is still unbeaten and in first place in the Missota Conference with a 5-0-2 mark.

Prior Lake will return to conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when it plays at Holy Angels at 6 p.m. The Lakers beat the Stars back on Sept. 4.



Football: Lakers get past rival Sabers, 23-6

The Prior Lake football team scored 16 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 23-6 Missota Conference win over rival Shakopee on Sept. 19.

The Lakers improved to 3-0 in the conference (3-1 overall) and will begin preparing for their showdown at No. 10 Farmington on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The Tigers are also unbeaten in the conference and are coming off a 21-7 win over Northfield.

The big play in the Lakers' win came courtesy of Jake Bolks. The junior returned a punt 88 yards early in the third quarter.



Volleyball: Lakers fall to rival Sabers

The Prior Lake volleyball team came up short in its attempt to upset the No. 2-ranked team in the state on Sept. 18.

Rival Shakopee, the defending Class AAA state champions, swept the Lakers in a Missota Conference match (25-13, 25-20, 25-22).

Prior Lake fell to 10-6 overall, 1-2 in the conference.

Senior Brittni Wangerin had nine kills and eight digs in the loss, while junior Emily Holte had nine kills and junior Sami Kemper had two blocks.



Girls tennis: Lakers blanked in Missota match

The Prior Lake girls tennis team followed its first Missota Conference win since the 2006 season by getting shutout by Hutchinson on Sept. 18.

The Lakers, coming off a 5-2 win over Farmington on Sept. 16, which snapped a six-game losing steak, fell to 7-11 overall, 1-4 in the confernece, with the 7-0 loss.

The Lakers will return to conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 verus Northfield, and then finish the regular season on Sept. 25 at New Prague. Both matches start at 4:15 p.m.
