Lyaman McPherson likes “old stuff,” and he’s hoping to bring some of the past back to Prior Lake.

On Monday, McPherson presented his plan to operate a 1940s-era railroad car diner in the downtown area.

A liquor store that sparked a local debate and resulted in a court fight is likely to open later this week, a spokesperson said Monday.

MGM Wine and Spirits will open at 14173 Commerce Ave., likely by the end of the week, said Franchise Coordinator Jackie Jorgensen.

A local resident will present his plan for a downtown railroad car-style diner during tonight’s Prior Lake City Council meeting.

Lyaman McPherson will talk to council members about how the diner could fit into the city’s plans for downtown redevelopment. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 4646 Dakota St.

Water that some residents have described as “coffee-like” is coming out of faucets in houses in the east-central portion of Prior Lake.

Prior Lake voters came out strong on Tuesday, with 93 percent of pre-registered voters in the city casting ballots. But factoring in the more than 2,000 voters who registered on Election Day, the total voter turnout was 81 percent.

The city had 13,760 voters registered as of Tuesday morning, with another 2,096 registering at the polls. The city counted 12,840 ballots overall.

The unseasonably warm temperature made things easier for early-bird voters who lined up at polling locations in Prior Lake and throughout the metro this morning before the polls opened at 7 a.m.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. today; if there's a line at 8 p.m., everyone in line will be allowed to vote. An election judge will identify the last person in line.

The Prior Lake City Council has cancelled its Nov. 3 meeting as two council members will be out of town.

The agenda items planned for Nov. 3 will be added to the council’s Nov. 17 meeting agenda.

Prior Lake City Council members on Monday rejected a proposal by the Scott County Community Development Agency (CDA) to redevelop the corner of Main Avenue and County Road 21 currently occupied by a flower shop and two other businesses.

Crews demolished the former Minnesota Nails and Joe’s Pizza buildings at 16318 and 16328 Main Ave. on Monday to make way for a city parking lot.
